The Original Heineken Brewery, Amsterdam - Toucan Dan’s visit

"Heineken". It’s the reason you give to immigration officers when asked why you’re visiting Holland. What trip here is complete without a visit of the Mecca of the beer world??

One of the must see place’s for all you malt lovers out there is the original Heineken brewery in Amsterdam.

Between 1930-1988 this famous (and very good indeed) beer was made right on this spot.

Now on the building is the Heineken Experience beer museum.

Two tumbs up

Inside, for an admission price of 10 EURO’s (about 20ish bucks) you can discover the secret of making one of the best beers in the world, from the big malt silos to the steering wagons.

You get to go on some cool rides like where you’re the Heineken bottle from the brewery through to the bar!

Now what’s a brewery without the bloody booze I hear you ask? Well, there are two fine bars along the way where you can ask the barman for a… you guessed it, a Hiney. (don’t ask him for a Budweiser like I did as you won’t get served)

You get 3 pints which isn’t half bad really for the admission price….

Tip: bring someone along who doesn’t like beer (your partner), it’s worth putting up with her whinging if you can have her drinks.

On departure they give you a cool aluminum replica bottle of Heineken with a bottle opener inside as a gift. Neat.

My rating: 4 and a bit cans out of 5.

Directions: Sorry, can’t remember how to get there, think it was pretty much south from Centraal, as the crow flies! You don’t really expect me to remember things like this when in Amsterdam do you?

Wonder if I can climb in there?
