Whale Safe Beer
This is an ad for Blue Tongue Beer in Australia, who are marketing themselves as a whale safe beer, this campaign started in late 2006.
They are donating $1 from every case sold to the Sea Shepherd, who if you don’t know are an organisation that go around harrasing whaling ships.
Apparently the only reason Blue Tongue sees itself as a whale safe beer is that their main competiton in Australia, Lion Nathan is 46% owned by Japanese brewery Kirin who don’t even have any ties to the whaling industry.
Thats it, they have based the fact they are whale safe just on the fact that their main competiton has a financial tie to Japan and they don’t as they are 100% Australian owned.
Personally I totally disagree with whaling but this marketing campaign is definitley a bit below the belt, maybe they think all Aussies are xenophobe’s.
